The gallery materialized from a shared passion for collecting and art– first collecting rocks and coins as children, which followed with the realization of the lack of a private art gallery in North Bay.

Bloch Bauers' name stemmed from a Viennese family who were the largest art collectors in Austria. All of their art was stolen by the Nazi's in the second world war. The niece of the family fought the Austrian government to get it back at the end of the war. It took her until her 94th year to finally retrieve them all.

Jay and Joey decided to bring their gallery to The Kennedy because of its rooted history within the city and a staple location for older generations familiar with it. ​​​
